Assigned to C-Div (Command Services) from Apr 74 to Apr 76. Arrived as EN2 left as EN1.
Demanding duty as there were only two rated Enginemen. All the liberty boats, TD, YWN, six boat, and pusher boat. CWO Kinney was the best officer I ever worked for. The C-Div crew was hard working and dedicated. Retired as ENCM. Lived in San Pasquale with my wonderful wife and three small children. Italian people were very hospitable to everyone.
Served on The Howard W Gilmore AS16 from Dec 1977 thru Jan 1979
Transferred as an HT3. Worked in Repair Division Shop 11A. Main deck near the back of the ship.
When Capt Kliendist was tragically killed, I actually brought the stretcher from the deck above when the mooring line snapped. Not a day goes by that I dont think about that. ( RIP Capt Paul)
Still had some very fond memories too.
I am trying to find anyone that served on the USS Howard Gilmore around 1970 to prove that the Gilmore was in blue waters in Vietnam. Please help. My email is cougarnw@msn.com
My name is Eddie Einhellig I served on the Gilmore in 77 to 79. I came aboard in December. I was a dental assistant just out of A school. It was a beautiful place for my first tour of duty. It would be great to hear from others dental tech or medical tecs
Serve on the Gilmore Dec 1968 to Nov1970 in the Deck Division Bm 3 Head of the painting. Especially over the side. Chief Jeffcoat was the head of the deck division He came aboard while were in Gitmo Cuba. I remember we were throwing everyone in the water and he was one of the few that wasn’t, He rolled up his pant legs and waded in too his knees.
