Years Served: 1957-1959…I worked out of ship’s office and the gunnery office — some may remember the football team we put together when we were in port at Pier One — we actually had our own jerseys (navy blue and gold) and played a couple of games on the beach in RI and Massachusetts — the rest of the equipment came from the Newport Naval Base team (some of their older and well used stuff) and from my former high school — as I re-connect with at least a few former shipmates, I’m discovering that most of those who might remember me did so mostly by my nickname (Jigger) – hey, whatever it takes - I’ve really enjoyed helping former Engineering Officer and Alumni president Dick Myers find a lot more former shipmates -
