Years Served: September 1969 through May 1970…DDG-7 was on the gun line in Vietnam when I was aboard. I was 2nd Class IC electrician and in charge of the IC crew. She escorted the USS Ranger along with the USS Turner Joy to the Tonkin Gulf and then departed for gun line duty. Great crew, great officers under command of Flank Hank Mustin who later became a Rear Admiral.

Years Served: January ’86 til May ’89…The day I reported on board, I caused quite a stir. Pier 3, end of the pier, and outboard of the USS Robison, DDG-12, on shaking legs, I saluted the ensign, and, facing 2 officers, (ENS. DeNardo, OOD, and ENS. Bartlett, OOD-UI) I reported aboard.

Years Served: 1969 – 1972…During my service on the Henry B. Wilson from September 1969 to December 1972, under Capt.’s Mustin and Farnham, the Wilson became home to me during many long hours in the Tonkin Gulf during good times and bad. If I close my eyes I can still walk every inch of her deck and recall so many great memories of the crew, ammo unreps (I was always the guy that passed the shells down through the hole into the forward magazine), ports of call, Sasebo, Yokosuka, Hong Kong, Subic Bay and Hawaii. It breaks my heart now when I see pictures of her cut into a power barge and finally sunk off San Diego as a target ship. I am deeply proud and honored to have served aboard her.
