I am a Navy veteran. But in 1991, i worked at Western Steel Ship Repair in San Diego. One day i had to repair a QAWT in the radar room of the Vincennes. I was alone in this ‘spotless’ room with the blue tile. While cutting the door gasket with my razor blade, i sliced into my finger of my right hand. I began bleeding heavily. Not wanting any of the ships crew to see all my blood on their spotless deck, i wrapped my bloody finger with my shirt tail and quickly wiped all my blood up with my good hand. Finishing my work on the door with one hand, i grabbed my tool pouch and left the ship. No one found out. I still have the scar on my right index finger where that razor sliced to the bone. Will never forget it. The Vincennes was the cleanest Navy ship i have ever seen! Sad that she is gone.
