Years Served: 1959-61…Hi shipmates — I was in OR division working in Main Comm and later worked in our transmitter rooms…had the Crypto watch while in Hong Kong when we were ordered to get underway — anyone else remember leaving all our gear in Hong Kong?

Years Served: ~3…I really loved this boat and the Place she took me. I think about it from time to time while talking with the old Vietnam era sailors in my neighborhood. I really used to have fun back in those days.

Years Served: 81 – 84…Had the best time of my life serving with some truly awesome men while on board. Spent most of my time in the Weapons elevator shop, G-3 div. Capt. McGrail was the best CO a sailor cold have ever asked for. I still on occasion find myself watching for the Green Flash, lol. Any who, great serving with everyone, your the best.

Years Served: Board member…I have severed on the board now going on 5 years. Last week I had the opportunity to play golf with Adm. L. Chambers and his wife. This was perhaps one of the most rewarding experiences for me as a board member.

Years Served: 1973-1975…I was a BM in 2nd Div. I caught the Midway in Alameda & Rode it to Japan. I got sick a few times after all those shots. But I’m fine now. I live on the north Oregon coast & have made the road trip to sunny San Diego four times. Last time was 4-30-2010 that was the 35th anniversary of Operation Ferquent Wind. It was really cool seeing the bravest man alive. Yes i’m talking about the guy that packed his wife & 5 kids in that little Bird Dog and landed safely on the Midway. THAT WAS A BALLSY MOVE!!!!! I got out as soon as we got back to Japan.

Years Served: 75-76…Just stumbled across this site and wanted to say that I have been trying to find a reason to visit the ship in San Diego. I’m hoping I can get a business trip in the area sometime this year. The best memory I have on the ship was the shellback initiation. I remember going to Singapore prior to the initiation and watching the Pollywog beauty contest afterwards. I also remember the captain wearing a hat after the “Royal Barber” had made a visit. Best time ever.
