I waa a young blackshoe gunnersmate serving in the armory. We had an old master chief that had more salt than Mortons who ruled that ship. It was a big transition for me to come from the Newport News, old naavy heavy crusier, but was amazed at how modern she was.

I served in VF-92, part of CVW-9. Did carrier qualifications on the USS America out of Guantanamo Bay Cuba and deployed to Viet Nam from Norfolk, Virginia on April 10 1970. Went from slimy pollywog to Shellback on April 24, 1970. I am a member of the Order of Magellan and The Domain of the Golden Dragon . Returned December 10, 1970. Next deployment was on the USS Constellation on October 1, 1971 through June 24, 1972 which included a three month extension on line during Line Backer II. During that period, the Air Wing shot down 2 Mig 21's and 7 Mig 17's with 2 Aviators becomming the ONLY Navy Aces of the war. My tour of service was up in September of that year and I was discharged with the rank of AQ-2. My Squadron had 1 KIA and 2 MIA when we left station. They will never be forgotten.

I was DS1 (converted to FC1 in 98) in CS5 division. Did the 97 and 99 WestPac's. Was a display tech (all you Combat Systems and Operations folks in that time period should know me). Ran OMR (Office Machine Repair) for a time fixing PC's. My fellow DS's, FC's, and ET's on that ship were by far the best damned crew I've ever served with. Props to Derek Crume, Jason Bramel, "Benny", Chris Ventura, Alvin Espina, Frank Mosblech, Jeff Sachinski, Edmund Aquino, Dell Keivit, Darcy Wright, Bobby Price, Robert Bagnell, Paul Hughes... I could go on all day listing the people that touched my life, so I'll stop for now and save you the torture. Maybe you folks knew (or still do know) some of the guys. One more thing... most of all, thanks to my friend "Old ET2" Karl Hughes.

ARTHUR SALLARD

My email is cedrickb37@yahoo.com. I was a dumb ass while I served, but I have learned my lesson. I'm from Durham NC. I served from 1998-2001. I served with a great group of guys, and would love to mend the fences that I broke. I regret the decisions I broke. I apologize to the NAVY for acting live a ass and to my shipmates I'm sorry for bringing attention to the squadron. I also want to apologize to Jarrel Mapp. I would like to do this in person. My phone number is 1-919-741-8437. I just want to man up for all my wrongs. I currently live in Charlotte NC, but my phone number hasn't changed for the last 10 years and won't change it now.

Years Served: 1968-69
Anybody remember the AN Ralph Thompson or ABE2 Bob Olseene both in V2 Division, killed in a catapult accident June 68 I believe ,and terrible for those who witnesed it. VAH-10 Det 64 ACAW-14

Years Served: 1979 - 1983
Served proudly as an ABH in the V-1 Division. My years onboard the Connie were great. President Reagan came onboard, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Hand Williams did his Country Picnic show for Showtime and of course we did do a Westpac with a stop in Perth. We were even lucky enough to test the first F/A - 18 Hornets. All of us Yellow Shirts got our Hornet Handler badges. I was even lucky enough to be the first Yellow Shirt in the Navy to "crunch" a hornet, well it was really two hornets. They looked great being loaded off of the ship via the dock cranes at North Island.

Tony Arroyo
Years Served: April 1973 to October 1976
It broke my heart to hear that she was going to the scrap yard. I think a better fate for her would be to become a floating museum. Lord knows she has had a colorful and interesting service life. But be that as it may I will always fondly remember her. The time I was on her was dynamic and extremely interesting. The people I met there were directly responsible for the professional growth I experienced and was the basis for my 21 year career in the Navy.

CTAC Roger Kizzee
Years Served: 1974-1998
I thoroughly enjoyed by tour of duty on "America's Flagship" and wish she were made into a museum for all future generations of American's to experience.

Years Served: 1963-1966
I'm looking for shipmates who knew my father. His name is Robert H. Nestle. VF 143 airframes and inspection. He was aboard the Connie in 1966 He loved life aboard ship!!!

I was with VA 146 1972 West pac tour. I was a plane captain on the A7 Echo. Arthur sellard, commented on the guest book that he was looking for someone that knew something about the accident with the A7 on the flight deck I don’t know if you’re referring to me or not. My aircraft came loose from the tow bar slid across the deck when we were in a 4 degree Port turn. It was pushed by a bunch of yellow shirts and brown shirts and wedged in between two F-4 Phantoms to keep from going over the side. If this is you art contact me by email fat cat 146 at hotmail.com.
