I was on the
Cowell 547 One the officer Mercery came to the side of the rail and I
noticed he was always running to the shop and tell us what to do and this time I told Mr Mercey stay out of my shop and tell me and i'll tell my men what to do. Later he came to me and said I don't like you and I asked him what will you do if you don't like me....I will promoate you from 2nd class to 1st class and send you on a bigger ship..... he made my day fine, Hary Simoneaux - in athe Navy 3 yr and 11 month they made me CDC chief damage controlman

It is hard to believe that 45 years have passed since leaving the after engineroom aboard the USS Cowell. I was aboard the Cowell for a short period of time after serving two years on the USS Hamner DD718.

Best ship I served on even though a reserve trainor.In Charge after fireroom.wish I could here from BT,s that worked for me back aft.They were the best.Best engineering space several times.Many cases of beer and great times.Captain Alvin Brand one of the best.

transfered from uss Duncan ddr847 to cowell fall of 1961 west pack cruise was in 1st div then into fox div. torpedo man tom skates was my lead po. was injured playing football for the ship/was also on softball team when we won championship in hawai’i missed 64 cruise was on hospital ship haven. discharged april 1964.
