Years Served: 1967-1970…Spent many a day on a good ship. I do have many memories from those days aboard the Shields. I was even awarded the Mikey Mouse award for trying to weld lockers to the deck in the berthing compartment, over the fuel tanks which were full. HT-1 Jones nominated me for the award. That only nails home the point that Signalman should not try to weld and Hull Tech’s should not try to send flashing light.

Years Served: 1959-60…Completed my first 4 year tour with the USN on the DD-596. I was an RD3 and served with a great bunch. We had good times. I hope to see them soon. It is great to have a neet web site like this.
Years Served: 1969…The Shields was my first ship in my Navy carrier I was put into deck force until my turn to go mess cooking. At first it sucked but it was better then chipping paint.I worked for CS2 David Loyd and SD3 Castro Those two were Great after mess cooking I was given my own watch in the galley and castro went to the wardroom.Thats where I met SM1 Albertson{FAT ALBERT} We are still Great friends today I retired MA1 in 1987
Years Served: 1957-1960…After completing FT School in San Diego in ‘56-57, I reported aboard the USS Shields in Mare Island! When we went under the Golden Gate Bridge into the open sea and put the pedal to the metal to check out the ship’s new engines, I wondered what this good ’ole farm boy had done!!:)
Years Served: 1966-68…I’m living in Alaska, working part time in weed management, and part time in electronics.
