Roger L Sorrells
Years Served: 1954-1958
My first ship from boot camp. Assigned to gun gang and became a Gunners Mate for life. Worked on the five 5/38cal gun mounts, two 40mm quad and 1 40mm twin guns, Armorer, Ordnance supply, ASW 102 rocket launchers, etc. Decommisioned USS Erben in Astoria, Oregon early 1958.
Separated from service, then re-enlisted, Retired 30 years later in 1984 as Master Chief Gunners Mate.

have served as her Postmaster. (former TE-3). Would enjoy hearing from other shipmates to share experiences.

Logan T. Jenkins
Years Served: Served right out of boot camp around 1956 or 57 as EM3
Served around 56=57 trip to Japan, transferred on Humanitarian Shore Duty to Naval Reserve base in Nashville, Tn. after death in family transferred to the U.S.S. Greenwich Bay AVP41 in Virginia, sailed to Persian Gulf. Ship was a Navy vessel (sea plane tender and flag ship) but was painted white due to desert heat. Got out of Navy in Virginia Beach, Norfolk area in 1959 and came back to Tennessee where I made my career in law enforcement.
