I was a gunner’s mate on the Uhlmann from Dec 1970 – Dec 1972 when she was reserve training ship in Tacoma, WA. And was a member of the decommissioning crew!

Served on USS Uhlman from 1955 to 1958. Plane guard Aircraft Carriers. First US ship to visit New Zealand since WWII

Responding to Ed Woznuk post. My dad served on the USS Uhlmann as a torpedoman from 1943-1945. I’m sure they crossed paths on that ship. His name was Mike Grasso as well.

Did anyone serve with Edward Woznuk 1943-1945 On the USS Ulhmann during WW2?

Served on board 1965-1967. I was SK3. Many memories, many friends, and shipmates. Westpac Vietnam 3 tours.

Years Served: 1962 – 1965…Was a BT3 in the aft fireroom.

Years Served: May 1971 to October 1972…Was an SKSN. Best ship I ever served on. Have some very fond memories of her.

Years Served: 1952/53…Was assigned to Fireroom 2 as a F1/C,BT3/2. Left the Uhlmann and was assigned to the USS McDermut (DD-677).

Became Gunnersmate after ’68 WestPac. Uhlmann then became reserve training ship out of Tacoma, Washington. Early out Jan. ’70 as GMG3. Have a lot of great memories on board of the mighty U,
