Was POIC of after engine room, B4, in 1972, just before de-comissioning. After last GITMO, we were transfered to RESDESRON 30 at Brooklyn yard. Cut our complement so much, I was standing Officer of the Deck watch, in port, as a MM2
I have a picture of the ship from my Uncle Gordon Reed, from Newark, NJ, dated December 4, 1958. He didn’t talk about his time in the Navy and I have no idea what his rating was.
My dad was aboard as Gunners Mate 3rd, from Commissioning until the end of WW2.
He never spoke to me of that time, but after he passed, I inherited his notes , and the personal log he kept, even some mail to his mother back home in NJ. Beyond enlightening.
On board from 62 – 65 and left as RM2. Served with Dennis McDougle, Larry
(Andy) Anderson, Charlie Gitto, Bob Lyons, and others whose names I can’t think of.
Made 2 Med cruises together. I remember John Bulls in Pireus Greece
Aboard 1961-1965 RM2
If you knew my brother Carl Ramage, please contact me.
