Was on the. Ault from 1961- Jan to 1963-Nov. Served with Small (slick) SM1 and Bob Knoedler SM2 and Jack Barton SM3 who I was a friend for several years. Started in Norfolk and ended up in Mayport. I have put together some of my momento’s and would like to find an Ault Zippo lighter in good shape. I have one
that I have worn out. Was in contact with Ltjg Dave Lange for several years, but have lost contact. If anyone has any news of him I would appreciate hearing!
My father Richard Plummer served on the USS Houston 1941 to 1944. He passed away. I would love to find a plaque of the ship from that time.
I (EN5 Ken L. Baker) Finished DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter) school in DamNeck, Virginia on Dec.1,1967. Assigned to the U.S.S. Ault on December 1967 to August 1969. So many years ago that I forgot many shipmates from the AS Division. Lt. Houlihan, was a good officer as I recall. In Dash Div. EN1 Wyrostik was my boss, one of the AT’s was AT2 Fury and another ET2 Richard Hager from my memory. ET2 Hager starting losing weight like crazy, come to find out he was Diabetic and was discharged. The Skipper Commander Brady was a good Captain. However, the new CO after Commander Brady left was abrasive and the XO too. Hated to leave the grand old ship but my Dad left a farm for me to take care of. One thing for sure I was proud of that vessel. Retired as a Texas State Game Warden Captain after 41 years of service there. In later years I saw the U.S. Ault in Galveston, Texas. She was assigned as a Navy Reserve ship before she was decommissioned in 1973. My book that I am writing of my state service will include the military years aboard the Ault. One thing to note about the U.S.S. Ault is that the ship’s plaque and service that can be found displayed at the Admiral Nimitz Pacific War Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas. Capt. Ken L. Was on Ault from Dec 63 thru Dec65. Made 2 Two Med cruises. Great ship, great crew. Graduated Temple Univ., finished Navy as QM2. Did reserve cruises on USS Wright, Snowden and Sablefish.
Served aboard from Jan 63 to Sept65.two med cruises ,St Lawrence Seaway cruise to Montreal. Great bunch of shipmates- still looking for Bruce Herring.Jim Leahy, Joe Montgomery and Tom McNeely are knob to be deceased-I’m sure there are more I’m now retired from the Telephone Company. Was a Torpedoman aboard the Ault(TM3)
I had similar experiences as Clair Romeck. Many trips to Caribbean and GTMO.
Then the trip around the world, Korean waters, the collision and time in dry dock. In Japan. Stop earlier at historic Midway Island, crossing the equator to become a shell back, two famous canals, great stops in the Med sea. It was a great growing up experience with 4-5 great life long friends. Jay Goldstein and Glenn Jester have passed. It is some time hard to believe that I spent over 3 years on the Ault sailing the worlds seas. Glad I did!
Does the AULT have an Association? I was on WALDRON. Looking for possible joint reunions with rest of DesDiv 222. Please contact me directly leisureworldjack@gmail.com Getting to the point where our reunions are less well attended and maybe a joint reunion may be an operative idea.

I was an FT2 on the Ault from 1956 to 1958. Graduated FT school in Bainbridge school in 1955. Ship went on cruise to Europe, Suez canal, Ethiopia, France, Gibraltar, Cuba, And many other ports. Worked on Fire Control MK25, MK56 systems and torpedo systems. Left Navy in 1958, Joined Raytheon and worked 50 years on the Hawk and Patriot Missile systems. Now retired and live in Seminole Florida

I am the son of CDR Edmund Turner who served on the AULT while it was stationed in Galveston. My father passed away in 1998 and al of us kids have fond memories of the AULT and some of the weekend cruises. I would like to know if there will be any reunions on the east coast side and me some of the crew that served with him around 1971.

New to site. I joined the ship in 62 at Boston Shipyard fresh out of ET A school. Made PO 3 then PO 2 while onboard. Great times with great friends. Remember Med Cruises and trip down to Gitmo and bars in the Caribbean. Refueling detail knocked me off after station by DASH hanger and ended up on main deck. Took ride in stoke stretcher from can to carrier then onto Navy hospital Naples. I knew I was going to die in that strecher. Picked ship back up in Marselle France. Remember powered eggs and bug juice. Left ship in 65 for ET B school in San Francisco then onshore Vietnam 66 -67 made PO 1 Stationed at Cecil field NAS Flordia 68-69. Got out went to work at New York Telephone in Upstate NY. Tks to Navy schooling I was able to get a good job and retired in 97. Would like to kept in the loop for events. May the sky be red at night and the wind always at your back
I served the same time as Romeck, 1953-1956 with the same expereince as him. I remember the night of the collision. I was in the supply office with my boss 1st class Sk who served during WW2 and when he hearedcthe woop woop , he knew it was a collision nd said let’s get out of here. Wentvout saw the collision. Afterword we spent the time passin ammo from near the Chiefs quarters to the fantail. They were also boarding up the wall in Chiefs qtr. one day was killed. After words the three months in Japan and whole cruise was great , will never forgetquaweowooptgesqq1a11qQ135#2@@2##1@/1aamasQ*
Came on board in 1961 from Washington DC as RM3. Turned out i was leading radioman, because some of the RM’s had misbehaved on the last Med cruise and were busted to E3. They were a great bunch of guys. We were in shipyards in Portsmouth VA. Went to Gitmo and was there for Bay of Pigs. Then to Washington DC. Them the St Lawrence Seaway cruise, and them the Med where we went through 2 hurricanes. Spent 3 weeks in Naples for repairs. Got discharged as soon as we returned to Boston for FRAM in June 1961. What a life experience and helped me GROW UP (while having fun!). Great memories.

First six or eight months as a machinist mate in the forward engine room.
Was very fortunate to get reassigned to sick bay and became a corpsman stricker. The chief corpsman liked what he saw in me and had me sent to hospital corpsman school after I completed my 2 yr. Sea duty.
Really enjoyed my time on board the Ault.
Spent the rest of my time working in Naval Hospitals and dispenseries.

U.S.S. Ault was my home in 1968-1969. After graduating from DASH school out of Dam Neck, Virginia, the Ault was my ship station out of Mayport, Florida. DASH stood for Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter. It seems that since I was low man in rank out of A/S Division I had to go to mess cook duty. A cook there had just retired and I inherited his job as “Jack of the Dust”. I did that job while making a Med cruise of 68. The finest job in the Navy of just working half a day and getting out the food items and leave them near the storage hatches were for the mess cooks to pick up. The ships cooks needed those food items to prepare the next days meals. No underway watches and only half a days work. I did not want to go back and work on those helicopters in the hanger deck. Miss my shipmates Rick Hagger AT-2, RD-1 Flury and many others that I have forgotten so long ago.
