Years Served: 1961-1963…Greatly enjoyed my time on the Waldron. Well remember the Med cruise and the big storm, also Cuban Missile crisis. I was the damage control assistant and thought might come in handy during the storm. remember going down in the chain locker during part of it. remember also a loose depth charge that a couple of us were foolish enough to volunteer to secure during the storm.

Years Served: 1961 to 1964…Hard to look back and realize it has been over 44 years, since leaving behind the greatest group of guys I have ever known. Great Med. trip, but as some have mentioned a hell of a storm. I clearly remember circumnavigating Cuba during the missile crisis. And my saddest memory was lying on the stern of the Waldron during some down time, catching some rays on a warm fall day in November, when over the loudspeaker blasted This is not a drill, all hands man your battle stations. Some time later we received the terrible news that our Commander in Chief, President John F. Kennedy had fallen to an assassin. It was a terrible part of history I will never forget.
