Served on the Mansfield from November 1969 (Drydock) through February 1971 when we put Jayne’s Fighting Ship in Mothballs. It was the best experience of my life and I am grateful to have served with a great group of men. DD728 was the Queen of DESRON9.

Jane’s Fighting Ship Jan 1964 to Nov 1966. It was home for 3 years. The longest time at sea for me was Aug. 1966 when we left the Subic and 90+ days later arrived in Hong Kong. It was a time of Rearm , refuel, Replenish and back up the Saigon River. then patrol the DMZ and finally heading into Haipong within range of their shore batteries. A fighting ship it was with more rounds on Vietnam than any other naval vessel. Greetings to the crew. We did our job well and enjoyed our times in the many ports we encountered.
