Years Served: 1965 – 1966…Dates served 1965 – 1966. I made Quartermaster 2nd class while onboard. Retired after 20 years as Senior Chief Quartermaster (SW) Aug 1982. After that I tried working a regular job, but had a hard time working for someone else. So I started trucking as my own boss and 22 years later I retired again.

Years Served: 1955 to 1957…The Henley was the second ship I serviced on after I had re enlisted in to the Navy. I became a Gunners Mate on it and made 3 class with in a year after boarding her. made many a med cruises and also to the north Atlantic. I was one of the special detail helmsmen on the ship also. Capt Karther use gunner mates on the helms as I recall. The only dumb thing I ever did on the Henly was to marrie a Girl from England which lasted one year. I re married in 1964 and have been happily married for 44 years.

Years Served: 1946——-1948…I was one of the first crews that commissioned the Henley. We were fresh boots from San Diego, and boarded the ship at Mair Island in San Francisco. Our Shake Down cruise took us back to San Diego. Then through the Panama canal to Key West Florida where we spent a long time playing sink the submarine at the sub base there. Then on to Boston to be outfitted for a trip to the Mediterranian area where we visited 20 some odd country’s. I was a lowly first class fireman and was assigned to a fireroom. Had a wonderful time and wonder if any of my old shipmates will contact me.
