the Thomas was my first ship Aug 68-Dec-68—(Newport)— although I was transferred to DE 1049 in Jan 69… She was my start as a gunner (striker) … my leading petty-officer was GMG3 Roy Pugh…. he taught me much! I later made GMG2 in 1971 … could not have made it without Roy getting me started. Can any one let me know the 3 who died in mount 51 off the Vietnam firing line in 69? 51 was my gun. He was a good man and spent 4 years on LT. I helped him on sonar electronic problems once in a while.

Served from 69 to 71 I remember the gun mount explosion well mm3 after engine room.

My Dad, HMC James D. Brown, USN (ret) was the “Doc” in DD 764 ‘61-’63. He is wondering about his buddy STC Pildusky (sp?). If anyone has any information on him, please let me know. Didn’t serve on a GEARING class, but did serve on two CHARLES F. ADAMS DDG’s and one SPRUANCE class DD. Thanks!
