Years Served: 1955 – 1956…Served aboard the USS McKean DDR-784 as a Yeoman – sailed to Melbourne, Australia for the 1956 Olympics!!! Met a woman there, and we were married in 1977!!! We have been married for 31 years now…
Years Served: 1963…I served on the USS McKean DDR-784 as a radioman. We sailed on a short cruise to the Phillipines, Hong Kong and Japan. We made a quick trip to Alaska escorting a carrier back to the USA. Hello to anyone who served on the McKean during 1963 under Captain Clark. A good ship, good officers and good crew.
Years Served: 1957-58 (Communications Officer)…Best wishes to all shipmates. After a year on the McKean under Captain Craw, I have found the rest of my life much easier.
My name is Brandi Reed.
My father was Neil “Knee-High” Reed (RIP 2010).
He served on the McKean from 1971-1974.
I’m looking for any kind of information about him who served with him.
Thank you very much for serving and have a wonderful day everyone.
I also was on the McKean during that WestPac deployment. Left the McKean in June of ‘72:
