Years Served: 1970-1971…Made one trip to WestPac for six months, then came back to the states. The ship was in a typhoon for three days or so during the transit to Yokosuka and had to be put in dry dock to fix a cracked hull resulting from the typhoon. Lots of fun. The Hollister was to undergo a refurbishment after arrival back to the States. I transferred to the Worden as OS3 and stayed on her until my enlistment was up.
Years Served: 1969-1970…Looking for any information on the location and times that we were in Viet Nam cruise of 69. I remember we were in the Harbor on time to drop off a CPO that had leave so he could visit his brother. We also went up a river for a short time. I even remember one time that there were some friendly’s (?) on the fantail that removed some of the turn buckles. Anyway, had a great time on this ship and miss a lot of the shipmates.

Years Served: 1969 – 1973…Loved the Hollister, then, now, and forever! Enjoyed the Ocean and the duty, no matter what kind or where. Can feel that salt ocean air and miss the excitement the Hollister provided in action or pulling into port. Think of the shipmates, and give thanks to you all…Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Phillipines, Singapore and the rest of the West Coast is awesome but most of all being on the crew I was with a blessing…
