Years Served: 1965?-1968…My Dad, BT1 Robert J. Whitney, was on the Preston from I think about 1965 until he retired in 1968. We lost him in 1985 but I can remember picking him up and dropping him off in Long Beach. I can also remember the Preston tied up next to the Turner Joy and the Maddox. He told my Mom once that the Preston was the best ship he ever served on. I am sure he meant it. Semper Fi.
I just went through a storage auction, and have found a westpac story 67 on the cover. USS PRESTON DD-795 WESTERN PACIFIC DEPLOYMENT. ALSO 2 COPIES OF THE WESTPAC ’68.
Served from June 65- Sept 68 . Was QM3 when i left, Great crew. Randy do you know what state Chenoweth was from? we became friends towards the end will try to track Him down.
