Years Served: July 68 to 70…Day’s I will Never Forget
I transferred from Eugene A Greene DD711 to the George Qa: the MacKenzi DD836 in Nov. of 1947.
The Greene was scheduled for a Med. Cruise and I
chose to be Honorably discharged in Dec. of 1947.
As a short timer I did not connect with many of the
MacKenzie shipmates.
I agree we get fonder… when I heard the story of the Mighty Mack getting sunk I sat down and cried…
To the operator of the ship’s store:
Do you carry Zippo lighters? If so, I would like to order one. And if not, why not? I hope it doesn’t have anything to do with smoking not being politically correct! I’ve been on this earth since 1944. and I enjoy a good cigar every day. I’d just like something to light up my stogies with something that has a nice reminder of my seafaring days.
