Years served: 1979-1981
FTG3 in Fox Div, Mk-68 GFCS, MK-5 TDS.
Made the 1981 Med/IO/North Atlantic cruise. Made Shellback in the IO on the way to Diego Gracia.
Served on the Ingram 75-77. I was a corpsman with Chief Mabry. Ingram was in dry dock in Charleston when I arrived. Got to do the re-qualify in Gitmo. Had a wonderful North Atlantic cruise, refueling at sea with below freezing temps, followed by passing out 1oz. shots of whisky to the crew. Enjoyed my time there, and the friends I made. I still hope to this day that Imlay forgave me from giving him Dulcolax rather than Dramamine, either way, it made him forget about being sea sick, or at least as I recall.
I remember the North Atlantic cruise in 1961. I was on watch on the bridge when the port hole glass blew out. It shattered on the side of my head. I still have the scars to show for it. What an experience. The Lord was watching over us on that cruise.
I’m looking for someone who new my brother when he was on the USS Jonas Ingram in 1981. His name is William Christipher Smith. He passed on the ship while docked in Mayport Fla..
Please email me if you knew him.
Thanks
served on the Ingram 1961-1963 SOG-3, great crew as i remember. got “sunk” by torpedo during drill as we all looked at the scope and could not figure out what was being shown—-blame that on lousy training
i noticed Madison looking for old crew, forgot my name huh ??
Donifrio jumped ship in Italy, you probably will not find him
Served on ‘Jonas Ingram’ from June 1980 to Dec. 1981 as MM3 & MM2. Met a lot of great folks, Med-cruise, Red Sea and convoy ops. Best wishes to all who served on her.
