Came to USS Blandy from USS Barry in 1975 was a BT. I stayed in Norfolk on the soap team when the ship went to the yard in Boston. I was lucky by what I saw when I got there. I was a part of the # 1 fire room when the main feed pump ran away. If you were on board you know what I mean. I left Blandy in 1977 before the Med cruise. BTs hit me up.
My father Raymond P Worsham served on the Blandy from 1957 till 1959. He was a Chief Bosun’s Mate (BMCA) at the time. Later to become a Master Chief before retirment. He was on the crew when the unknowns were transported from Europe to Hampton Va. and afterward up the Potomac to the US Naval Gun Factory.
I am plankower of the USS Blandy DD943 F2f 1957= 1959 unknown soldier to D.C. Stool guard unknown still have picture
years go bye faster than we think . but time we served like it was yesterday
I served on Blandy from May 1962 til May 1965. Went on as EMFA and Left as EM2. Would love to hear from any shipmates who remember me. I was leading electrician for about a month during GITMO cruise.
Served 1975-1979 on Blandy. Med cruise 1977 and Mid-East 1978. Served as Boilers Officer during overhaul in Boston 1976, ASWO till Sept 1978, then CICO. I was very proud of our performance in the battle group as an outdated destroyer, we had a crack team! We defeated two Los Angeles class submarines in 1977 (thanks to SCPO Dupuis), passed our Operational Readiness Exam in 1978 with a score of 96, and had a upper 90’s gunnery score at Bloodsworth Island in the Chesapeake in 1978 (97%?). This was the best team I have ever been on in my lifetime. I have used this ship example countless times in my after career in industry. A true example of good leaership, Blandy was always back!
Served on board 1964 1965 I was a ships cook CS-3
Greetings Shipmates. I was on Blandy Dec 1970 – May 1974 in Supply (Ship Service). I was laundry, then ships store and back-up barber to Ski and Carter. I see Bob Agnese, Mo and Zeke listed here. Zeke where’s Nick??? This May 2018 will be 44 years since I got an early out to be discharged from Orlando for my early college entrance. Time flies for sure. Living the dream in South Florida since I got out. Retired 2x from law enforcement.
Served on the USS Blandy 1957-1960 as a MM.
Plank owner.
Stood watch over unknown solder from Europe.
I served aboard the Blandy in 1968 as a Sonar Tech. During our West Pac tour on the gun line, we secured sonar and half the sonar gang were assigned to work with the FT’s and half with the Gunnar’s mates. I spent half the tour in main Battery Plot on the firing key and the second half of the tour inside gun director 52. Saw it all. Still seems like yesterday. Would live to hear from other members of the sonar gang
Served as Weapons Officer 1965-1966. Was on board for Med trip and terrible Boiler explosion in Med resulting in two deaths and injuries. Blandy received temp tender repairs in Malta prior to return to CONUS.
HAD BEEN LISTED ON Association Roster but somehow name disappeared.
