Years Served: 1968 to 1972…I served in VF-92, part of CVW-9. Did carrier qualifications on the USS America out of Guantanamo Bay Cuba and deployed to Viet Nam from Norfolk, Virginia on April 10 1970. Went from slimy pollywog to Shellback on April 24, 1970. I am a member of the Order of Magellan and The Domain of the Golden Dragon . Returned December 10, 1970. Next deployment was on the USS Constellation on October 1, 1971 through June 24, 1972 which included a three month extension on line during Line Backer II. During that period, the Air Wing shot down 2 Mig 21’s and 7 Mig 17’s with 2 Aviators becomming the ONLY Navy Aces of the war. My tour of service was up in September of that year and I was discharged with the rank of AQ-2. My Squadron had 1 KIA and 2 MIA when we left station. They will never be forgotten.
