I served on the Lofberg from 1966 to November of 1969. I was a boiler man. The sleeping quarters were under #3 gun mount. During times off the coast of Vietnam when firing on the enemy, both cannons on #3 gun mount were fired at the same time. That prevented anyone in the quarters below from sleeping. The air conditioning would break down, light fixtures would fall and fiberglass insulation would fall from the ceiling. It was also very hot without any air conditioning.

My Daddy, John Robert Latham, was on the USS LOFBERG around 1968 – 1970. I am trying to get in touch with anyone who was on the ship with him. He now lives in Greensboro, AL. Please E-mail me any information so I may be able to pass it on to him for Christmas.

Thank you!!
