Years Served: 1951 to 1955…Came aboard the Lofberg in November 1951 straight out of SONAR School as a Sonarman Seaman, made 3 tours to Korea and all Ports, 2 while the War was on 1 in 1954 called Korean Defense. Had 3 Skippers, with 2 I remember, Captain Phillips and Captain Dobie, both to me the Perfect Captain of a Ship. I have attended 2 Ships reunions one in South Carolina, the other in Seattle, met those that I served with and enjoyed those meetings. I have made Movies first in VHS now converting to DVD or photos taken from 1950 to 1953 and will be available to Shipmates and Relatives of Shipmates that served during that period. You may email me at mccain@clearwire.net or phone 541 660 6104, or mail me at 4315 Lower River Rd. Grants Pass, OR 97526, there is no charge but just to those during that time period. Many of the photos submitted were made by those that have passed on, their names are still listed on the credits.

Years Served: 1967 to 1970…I served in the forward boiler room from 67 to 70. The TET Offensive started on my 21st birthday. That’s one reason I don’t forget it. Looking for anyone who remembers when we went up a river to provide support and would back out and anchor in the harbor at night. The deck apes would drop concussion hand grenades over the side at night to keep charlie from swimming out and attach explosives. Sounded like someone was bearing on the side with a sledge hammer. Hard to sleep.

Years Served: 1954-1956?…My father, Ed Nalley, transferred to the Lofberg upon the decommissioning of the Oriskany for the angled deck upgrade. He served the rest of his tour on the Lofberg and considers it His Ship. He was a radar tech. I have some 8mm film he shot while aboard. It shows waves over the forward turrets, amazing. He attended the Charleston, SC reunion in 2002. Thank you fellows for your service. Glen Nalley southlandson1@yahoo.com

Years Served: 1960 to 1962…I came aboard the USS Lofberg right out of Radar school in 1960 as a RD3 of which I had made Rd3 onboard the USS Hassayampa AO-145 based in Pearl Harbor prior to going school. I made one cruise with her to Westpac and then left her at Hunter’s Point after she completed the FramII conversion.
