Years Served: 1956-1959…I was assigned as a FTSN to the Barton docked at Norfolk CE piers in early 1956. I have many memories of my duty and saw many interesting things; Mount 53 exploding on the Pierce while in the Med, a ship sinking off the Virginia capes, ships being sunk in the Suez canal, taking 63 degree rolls in bad weather, the Shah of Iran touring her while in Abadan and many others. I will always remember my years aboard her. I now live in Colorado and am retired.
Years Served: 1963-1964…I really had a great time aboard the Barton. Ask anyone who knew me.
Years Served: 1961 – 1963…Would like to hear from some old shipmates.
Years Served: ~1 yr…I reported to the Barton right out of boot camp @ Great Lakes in 1967. I was a 4 yr regular and was a FN MM attached to the forward engine room. It was a great ship for a first duty station and met a lot of great guys who helped me over those early months in the Navy. I served aboard her as one of the core crew, while she was part of Reserve Destroyer Squadron 30 from ~Oct 67 untill she was decommissioned in Sept of 68. I live in Towanda Pa. The names and faces have faided some of my experiences with many, but would like to hear from anyone who may remember me or served during that time period. putnamrl@epix.net
Years Served: June 1963 to September 1964…I was a Fire Control Tec in the Fox Div.
