Years Served: 1962~1966…Tin-Can duty doesn’t get any better than this. Looking back on 20yr career it was my finest duty bar none and mostly due to the troops I served aboard with and still communicate and attend reunions with. Boats…

Years Served: May-66 to July-69…The Borie was my first home away from home. Was RD 2 when I left the ship in 69. Had great good will cruises to the North Atlantic and Mediteranian, and a not so good will cruise to Viet Nam. I also had a couple of cruises to the Caribbean. The Borie was my life for 38 months, and I treasure the memories and friendships I found there.

Years Served: 1964-1966…SOG3 -I went to Europe and through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea on the Borie. I have many memories of that time of my life. I went back to school and became a counselor after one hitch in the navy. I am now retired and live in rural Oregon.

I was on the Borie from 61 to 64. My rate was SOG3. I was the sonar man who first got contact with the Russian sub. After a few hours of tracking the sub, I informed the bridge that I thought it was sick. I was relieved after about 4 hours. I didn’t get down to our compartment when my relief lost contact. I was called back to sonar where I regained contact and tracked the sub for about another 4 hours. I don’t believe we forced it to the surface that I have read. The sub had to surface do to too many hours down. Also, not long after we asked if they needed help, an ocean going tug from Russia came and eventually put a tow cable on the sub.
I live in Port St. Lucie Florida most of the year but still have a house in Medford NJ.
