Years Served: 1980-1982…Hello, shipmates. I reported to the Jolly J-I, after serving for 2 years at the NATO Base Keflavik. I worked in the supply dept, under the Disbursing Officer, Mr. Marsh. My fiance/wife worked at the Mayport Dispensary. The J-I had just completed an extensive re-fit, so the customary shake-down cruises & a Med/ I.O. cruise followed my reporting-aboard. During that cruise, we had a shell-back hazing ceremony, and then, the paper-work got LOST! I continued to complete a career of 21 1/2 years. The Jolly J-I was my second ship. At career’s end, I served aboard 6 ships, with 2 shore tours at the Sub Base Groton Commissary. My last two ships were home-ported in Newport, RI & my wife & I live in the Woodberry family house on Boston’s North Shore, with my parents both still living, just downstairs from us. We both wish all J-I shipmates fair winds & following seas NMW & EAB

Years Served: Philly Shipyard Re-fit 1970-1973… Hello to all my plank-Owner shipmates from the Philly rebuild. I was an RM3 when I left. Two med cruises and and a zillion and one Caribbean cruises not to mention the N. Atlantic. Great experiences; I think of them almost daily. I still stay in touch with RM3 David Kean and Sr. Master Chief Eddie Goldsmith (Lifer/great friend/great public servant). If you were a shipmate during that time please feel free to drop me an e-mail;. I’m a retired State of Texas Police Officer, 30 years service. I live in Borne, Texas, just west of San Antonio off IH-10. I’m proud to say I was a J.I. Sailor and hats-off and many thanks to all who have served, and those serving now in all U.S. Military.
